ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH, KELBURN

$.- —: — ANNUAL MEETING. The parishioners, of St. Michael and All. Angels' Church, Kelburn, held their annual meeting last evening. The vicar (the Rev. H. Wat Eon, M.A.) was in the chair. ' Great progress -was reported, both in the number of services held in the year and in the attendances. The Ladies' Guild had done good work for the Red Cross' Funds, and by a sale of work £85 was paid off the church debt, thus leaving a. balance of £160. The Sunday scholars, by the aid of a sale of work, had contributed £51 towards the new church_ fund. The church was at present in-' adequate, and the need of a church worthy of Kelburn w,as urged on the parishioners. Towards this object-the main fund was largely augmented by a canvass of the .distriot which resulted in the sum of £855 being collected. The vicar addressed .the meeting on the work necessary in this direction, and it was resolved to recommend the incoming vestry to organise a canvass with the' object-of raising £500 for the new church building fund. The question of forming Kelburn into a separate district was discussed, and it was referred to the vestry for consideration.

• The vicar appointed Mr. G. H. Sturtevante to be his warden. Mr. H. G. Evans was appointed the parishioners' warden, and the new vestry is composed of Messrs. H. S. Barnes, G. Bell, — Bray. H. G. Mayer, G.'AV. Morgan, F.' T. A. Johnson, W. E. Southwick, H. M. Stephens, and V. B. Willis. . Mr. G. W. Jonisch was appointed hon. auditor.

Last evening the Karori Borough Council passed the following resolution:—"That this council, whilo it sympathises with any class of workers in its reasonable and legal efforts to improve its working conditions, deprecates the strike of a sectißn of the coal miners as a protest against an Act of Parliament placed on the statute book of the 'Dominion by the people's representatives, duly elected, and retaining the confidence of .the electorates. That it further pledges itself to support the Government in its efforts on behalf of the people of the Dominion to reduce to a minimum the inconveni* once and annoyance to which the v. hole community has been put by tho i nwarrantod and illegal action 'of sucli a small section of them as part <f i'«e coal miner's."
