STRIKE TROUBLES IN GERMANY
WEEK-END DEMONSTRATIONS
Zurioh, April 23. The munition workers in Berlin made fresh demonstrations at the week-end, although the military liau posted notices in the Spandau factories declar-, ing that strikes would be punishable under the military code. The railway workers at Warsaw, Lodz, and other Polish towns have struck. The Germans threaten to deport them, but their number is increas-ing.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
A VOICE IN THE RATIONING, Amsterdam, April 23,
Trade union leaders, at a meeting in Berlin, declared that '400,000 people participated in the strike and secured' the Government's promise that a Labour Committee should- co-operate in future rationing. The aim of the strike lias been' attained.' ' The "Vorwaerts" states that the police at Cologne confiscated quantities of hoarded corn and potatoes; closed sixty-eight bakehouses, and summoned 300 bakers in connection with the, hoarding.—Aus.-N.Z. PAN-GERMANS OPPOSE
PEACE
JUNKER PARTY ATTACKS THE

The Pan-Germans, headed by Count Reventlow and backed by the Crown Prince, are fiercely assailing the- Government's attempts at negotiating a peace with Russia, fearing that the elimination of the Russian danger will weaken ]the war spirit, leading to a peace without victory. The Pan-Ger-mans have bought a syndicate of newspapers in order to advertise the Crown Prance, whilst attacking the Kaiser, Count Reventlow asserts that a status quo peace, with an indemnity, would ruin Germany and Austro-Bungary—. United Service.
