SHEEP CUT UP BY TRAIN
SLAUGHTER ON THE MAIN TRUNK. By Telegraph Special Correspondent. Talhape, April 24. A mob of sheep belonging to Mr. Sims Cooper' whicli was taken.to the Taihape freezing works a few evenings ago met with something like a tragedy. Arriving at the works about dark, they_ were taken across the railway to one 'of the holding yards, to be kept there for the night. At this particular railway crossing there are no cattle stops, and, unknown to the di-over, about 60 of the sheep strayed on to the railway. A little later the Wellington express came along and scattered thcni in all directions. On an examination being made, it Avas found that a good number had been killed, and many others, about 30 in. all, were so badly injured that they; had to he destroyed.
