TO SAVE ARTIFICIAL LIGHT
CHANGE OF BUSINESS HOURS. The Government offices aro "to comply with the request to commenco / work at 8.30 a.m. -instead of 9 a.m., and to, close half-an-hour earlier, in order to save, as much as p'ossible, the electric light. The revised hours are to commence to-morrow. In the case of the City Corporation office staffs the rearranged hours will start i from this morning. \ The Institute of Architects and various business. houses have also decided to comply with the new order. ! The Labour; Department has given authority for those firms and employees, who are concerned witli awards, in which the hours of work are especially mentioned, to commence work half-an-hour earlier than is so mentioned. , Conserving Stocks. As a result of the continuation of the coal strike, local firms whqse activities depend on steam/plants are conserving their fuel as much as possible, and are searching for any supplies that might still be available from those with whom the urgency is not perhaps , so great. ' . As the result of the depletion of coal stocks, there has already been experienced by the grocers and others a lively demand, for kerosene, oil-stoves, kerosene lamps, and oil-burning heaters.
