BOARD OF TRADE STATEMENT., ' By Telegraph.—Press. Association: Chrlstchiiroh, April ID. ! Tho Board of Trade has been holding a sitting here. Mr. \V. G. M'Donald, chairman, in a statement to the Press representatives to-day, said that a. 'statement telegraphed Jfrom Wellington on April 13>liad been published iu Ohristchurch' and Dunediu newspapers, and- convoyed information that tub present year's prico oi: wheat liatl been fixed at ss. • 10d.. per bushel f.o.b. From,information.that has readied the board, Sir. M'Donald;'says, this inaccurate statement of the price has caused a little' trouble. The actual fixed prices are: Tuscan, ss. 7d. per bushel 1.0.b.; hunters, 6s. Bd.- per bushel i.o.bi: pearl and velvet,. ss. 9d. per bushel 1.0.b.; with Jd. additional each montli for storage. during the months or May, June, July, and August; making .the maximum, prices from August 1 onwards: Tuscan, ss. 9d. per, bushel f.0.b.: hunters, as. 'lOd. j per bushel f.o.b:; pearl and-Velvet,, ss. lid. pet bushel 1'.0.b. The board desires to emphasise the fact that the gazetted prices aro all 5 f.o.b- • . - . . Tho' board also emphasises 'the fact that millers and merchants aro right, in order to-arrivo at'tlio price of wheat at country stations, in deducting from the; gazetted prices' the cost of transporting 'to, the port, and tho f.o.b. charges (including wharfage and suchlike charges). Complaints have* been received from time to time by the Government'and; thoi Board of Trade that ,th'o-. regulations governing prices of' wheat and (lour and Offal have not been,, observed. So far. as tho Beard of Trade caii f judge ironi returns • that have. been, furnished either weekly ov monthly (as required by : ,tho regulations), no material infringements or, regulations have occurred,-but in order to see that, tho regulations are boing observed, the Hon.' W.. -DA S. ■ Mao Donald, president of tho board, has appointed five in: speetors w'hose* duty it will be to investigate' every complaint that reaches them : that the regulations ; are being broken. In addition, inspectors on their own initiative can make such investigations as'itliey deem desirable. The inspectors appointed are:. Messrs. A. W. Smith,; .chief grain grader; Alexander MacPherson, fields. supervisor, Christchurch ;H. T. G. Turner, fields supervisor; OhristchurchWilliam Wills, fields supervisor, • Diinedin; W.i J. M'Cullocli, fields supervisor, Invercargill. . 'I'liese inspectors have; been directed, to take. instructions from, and' to' •report direct to, -the Board 'of' Trade. • During; its visit'to Christchurch, the >board discussed with those interested: the advisabloness of fixini; the price of seed wheat, but the board is not yet in a position to. state what its recommendation .will.be.- . ~,
