CITY COUNCIL

A meeting of tho Wellington City Council was held last night. \Thcre were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), and Councillors W. H. P. Barber, fi. Frost, J. Godber, J. Hutcheson, A. It. Atkinson, W. J. Thompson, W. H. Bennett, M. 1)'. I/uckic, T. Bush, A. Voitcli, 11. A. Wright,' : W. J. Hildrcth, and J:'E. Fitzgerald. It decided that thu Brooklyn Municipal Electors' Association be informed, in reply to their request that tlio tramlino from. Seagar's Corner, Brooklyn, bo duplicated, that it is at present impossible to obtain tram-rails : i'or.-the. carrying out. of tho work.

After some, discussion tho following recommendation of tho Tramways Cinmittce was adopted:—"That tho request, of tho Onslow Borough Council for' an extension of the tramway penny section from Thorndon Station to Stewart Dawson's Corner bo not acceded'to, as this council does not con-sider-tho present an opportune time for revising tramway- faros arid sections." It was resolved that tho Iloseneath School Committee bo informed, in reply to' their request for assistance from the council in erecting a concroto wall with hand-railing and concrete flagging at tho proposed memorial "to the expupils of tho Boseneath School who have fallen in. tho great war, that in view of tho very many similar requests which aro likely to bo received from other districts, and also in view of the probability of- tho council considering tho question of erecting a memorial of ■ a larger character at tho termination •of tho war, in commemoration of all the Wellington citizens who havo made the supremo sacrifico in tho present •war, that the council Tegret that they cannot commit themselves to any expenditure for this purpose in any ono particular district.
