SOME INTERESTING STATISTICS. Mr. Herbert Baillie, Chief Librarian of the.municipal libraries, has prepared a report for the year ended March 31, which shows a decided increase in all of tho lending departments. The Central (adult) Library shows an issue .of.-.103,097, "against 94,492 last year, and tho children's department, 8891; against 6667. The revenue from subscriptions and other fees amounted to £651; last year it was £576. The increases amount to: Adult issues, 9 per cent.; children issues, 33 per cent.; and revenue, 13 per cent. "Tho number -of subscribers to the children's room increased 28 per cont. In every instance the numbers are the highest, on record.- At Newtown the issues Tncreased fron/57,471 to 64,531— 12 per cont. Subscription and other foes increased from £243 to £285—17 per cent. The total issues from all departments, including tho schools, amounted to 218,000. The percentage of fiction issued shows a decrease on previous years. At tho Central (adult) it is 88 per cent., Newtown 85 per cent., Central (children) 76 per cent., schools 50 per cent.

Owing to-the resignation of tbo .children's librarian, there was a delay in the issue of libraries to _ the schools, this will account for a slight decrease in tho number of books issued. The number of books sent out to thirteen schools was 3196, and the issues amounted to 36,671, against 36,894 last year. This year there are fifteen schools receiving libraries, and the number of books sent out number 4375. Tho scheme, the librarian adds, is working very smoothly, and is giving great satisfaction to everyone concerned. Mr. Perry ib now in charge of this department, and he has shown great interest and energy in the work. He has created a record by having all the libraries in the schools during the firsj) week after the summer vacation."
