PAY INADEQUATE
MILITARY SERVICE BOARD'S DECISION. A decision that presented some unusual features : was given l by the Second Military Service Board yesterday. A married soldier who has trained with' tho iSventy-fiftli Reinforcements was granted indefinite leave without pay, on the application of his wifo, who stated that she was' 'unable to keep herself and her two children on her husband's Aiilitary' pay and tho separation • allowance received by her from tho Government. I Tho soldier was Private John J. Cremin, G Company, Twenty-fifth Reinforcements. • ' Cremin stated that he had enlisted voluntarily. He had not been able ,to make any financial provision for his wife and children beyond the pay and allowances fixed by the Government. He had been under the impression that-the amounts allowed would be sufficient. The appeal had been made by .his wife.' Mrs. Cremin stated that she could not possibly manage oh the separation allowance and the money her husband' was able to give her from his military pay. Ho had enlisted without consulting her. "You should have consulted your wife before enlisting," said the chairman of the board (Mr. J. W. Poynton) to Cremin. "It is very patriotic of a Second Division mail to enlist, but you have left your wife in a difficult position." Captain Cowlisliaw (military representative) : "The Defence Department ha's been put to a lot of expense for the training and maintenance of this soldier." v' ' . _ : The chairman said that Cremin would be given indefinite leave without pay.. The man had been in the employ of' the Railway Department, which doubt-, less: would take him back into the service. •
