OVERSEA SOLDIERS IN LONDON
CHARGES OF LOOSE CONDUCT - REFUTED. ■ . . London, April 9. Captain Muirhead Collins, official secretary in London to the Commonwealth of Australia, has written a letter to the "Daily News," in which he states that, in view of the statement in the newspaper that the neighbourhood, of the railway stations; clubs, and hotels frequented by soldiers of the overseas forces wore conspicuously, disorderly, and ■ that much drunkenness and immorality were observable, the Commissioner of Police had'. made searching inquiries',.not only amongthe police, but among private persons who had special opportunities of observing street conditions.. The High Commissioner had now received reports which showed that the statements referred to -were unjustifiable exaggerations,, and that there was no foundation in fact to support them.
