MONOWAI DELATED. The Monowai. according V advice received by the Union Company, has been delayed in, Auckland by heavy rain, and did not leave the northern, port unjil yesterday. • The vessel is due hero from the northern port via Gisborne and Napier, arid her departure ■will probably be taken the samo day for Dunedin direct, the call at Lyttelton being missed to catch up to time-table.

11 HIMITANGI'S MOVEMENTS. Mr. E.G.'F. Zohrab, local agent for the Himitangv advises tliat the Htaitongi -will leave here" on Monday or' Tuesday for the Chatham Islands. The vessel iviU work Kaiangaroa, Whangaroa, Ovtenga, and Pitt Island. She will not make the usual call at TVaitangi.' The Himitangi will return to T'yttelton and then • <jone on to Wellington.' At'-present the Himltongi is undergoing extensive annual .overhaul at No. 9 Qiieen's Wharf. Her funnel was re-; moved last week,, and is being replaced by a. muoh longer one, which will gjjo her * better appearance.

" BLENHEIM* FOR W ATTARA. The first vessel to leave for Waitara for some considerable time is to be the Blenheim. The vessel is to arrive here on Friday from Pclorus Sound and Havelock, and is timed to sail on Saturday, for. the northern port. ■■■■.- •■■-. • HEAVY LOSSES BY OTJNARD -LINE. Tho torpedoing of the steamship Laconia brings the total umount of tonnage lost by the Cunard tine to a figure that probably oiceeds the loss of any other single company (says .the Sidney "Shipping Lißt"). The White Star Line also ha,B lost several of its finest boats, including the Britannic,' while other companies 'havo suffered in proportion. Cunard liners that havo been destroyed during the last year include- tho Alaunia, a U.JOO-ton vessel; the Franconia, of 18,000 tons gross; tho Invcrnia, of 14,000 : tons, and finally the Laoonia, an 18,00Mon ship, and a sister ship to tho Franconia. These four ships, with the Imsltaniti, represent a. loss in excess of 90,000 tons gross. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. E. S. Hoad, assistant purser of the Mapourika; has transferred to the Kamo. Mr. O. L. Cronchy, mate of the Wakatu,' has tone ashore, and Mr. Laraen has rejoined the iTesscl. . • . - Mr. M. O'Sullivan, fourth engineer of the Mararoai has come ashore, and Mr. TV. A. Oairns has joined the vessel. Mr. G. Morguson has oome ashore from the Orepuki.

Th.e Kamo, which was withdrawn from the ijrcymouth-WellinKton run in order to run a speoial trip from Wellington to Ljttelton suid Dunedin, ie to load at the two southern ports for Auckland. The Poherua, which has been waitint at TTestport for a' load of coal lor Dun. cdin, has been altered, and was to have left Westport on Saturday or Sunday for Picton, to load chaff for Onehunga. Captain Stoit, who is .to take up the position of marine superintendent tor the Union Company in Auckland, has arrived in that city.

The Kini, which arrived hero yesterday from southern ports with genoral cargo, is eipeotod to leave again to-day at 5 p.m. for Westport and Greymouth. Sho will receive cargo until noon for these two ports. Tho Karamu arrived at Auckland from Wellington yesterday. She is to load at the northern port to-day for Gisborne and Wellington, and should get here on Saturday or Sunday. The Hinenioa has been put off, and now lenvos to-day for tho southern lighthouses. The Hippie left last evening for Napier, Gisborne, and Akitio, and is duo back on .Sunday as usual. On arrival here the 'vessel is to go on the Slip, and consequently her departure has been postponed until Wednesday next.at 6 p.m. According to tho Duncdin "Star" an alteration ha-s been made in the itinerary of the schooner Houto, which was expected, to arrive here from Dunedin with general cargo early this week. Her trip from Duncdin to Wellington has been abandoned owing to the small amount of cargo offering at both ports for tho-vesscl. It is probable that she'will load general cargo at Dunedin thi6 week for Kaipara, later returning to Dunedin, where her pew engines arc to bo fixed. The Rosamond,. which arrived in port last evening from New Plymouth, is to leave this evening, at 5 o'clock for Bluff and Dunedin. Cargo will be received until 2 p.m. for thoso p,orts.: •
