With a view 7 to facilitating the tendering of the steamer Ara-hura it lias been decided to take advantage of the vessel being laid up at Auckland for repair? and overhaul" to remove the belting which exists in sections round the ehip's sides. Tho belting was intended* for protective purposes during berthing operations when tho vessel was originally engaged in the West Coast trade, but since the vessel has been in tho Gisborne run if-, has proved a source of much difficulty in lightering and tendering operations, vStticularly in rough weather. With the belting removed, the tenders will be able to lie alongside litli much greater owe, as there will not be tho danger ol ■ bulwarks being caught in the beltmg in the movement alongside. ILA.FOUBIKA WITHDRAWN. The Mapourika, owing to the coal trouble on the W»:t Coast, has been -withdrawn from the run in the meanwhile. She Trill therefore not Jeave Wellington to-day as usual for Nelson aad the coast. MESS TABLE GOSSIP. Captain A. Itobertson, of the Joiin, has conio ashore on special leave. Mr. J. Hawick, first mate of the vessel, has taken charge temporarily, and Mr. J. B. Hall, second mate, has been promoted to first mate. Mr. H. Paul, extra, chief officer of tho Jlspouiikaf has como aehore. The Einemoß. has been fixed to loave here at 2 p.m. to-day for the southern lighthouses. Mr. K. ti.T , . Z9hrab advises that tho Calm is expected here on Thursday from southern ports. She will, according to present arrangements, leave here on the same day for Wanganui, from which port she returns to Picton and then goes to Onohunga. Tho vessel is expected back here on April 28, t and will then go south. According to n, southorn exchange, another coa«tal vessel ie to be built at Dune, dui. Khn will be a vessel of sorao 360 tons oarrying capacity, and will be built specially for cattle or timbor carrying. The Karu now leaves here at noon todav for Now Plymouth. No moro Wellington cargo for the Taranaki port jriU be received. Tho Rosamond was to have left Isew Plymouth yesterday for Wellington, «md is' duo this morning.
