Auckland, April 16. Infoiaiatiou was received in Auckland to-night that the coal miners employed at tho Waipa oolleries, near • -Ngaruawahia, went out on strike this morning.' There are between, 150 and 200 men in tho employ of the company. The men employed by the Taupiri mines and by tho Pukemiio colleries held an important meeting to-night, the result ol which has not yet transpired. It is expected, however, that | the men working in this gioup of mines % at Huutly may go out on strike tomorrow. The Taupiri Company emi ploys over 350 men and Pukemno from 180 to 200. So far as can ho ascertained the men concerned have riot given any reason for their action. The only reason that can.be assigned to them is their opposition to the Conscription Apt, It is hoped that further trouble may - he averted by an early settlement of tho strike of tho West Coast miners by .the Acting-Prime Minister and the Hon. 'A big meeting of Labour suppoiters was held last night to discuss the mu r , • nioipal elections and the Labour outlook. .Referenco was made by Mr. ' Webb, M.P., and Mr. M'Combs, M.P., 'to .the ..miners, .on the Coast, andthe meeting passed, unanimously tho following resolution':—"That this meeting of Christchiirch citizens sends greetings to the ' miners, and offer homes to their -wives and children if they send them over." It was stated that arrangements are in hand to house a tlumsand women l and children if necessary. ■^
