EXPEDITIONARY FORCE DIVIDED AN ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGE The Commandant of the New Zealand Forces has decided to give effect to Clause- 37-of'the Military Service Act, which provides that the Expeditionary Force may be divided into such units and other divisions as he may think fit. The force is to bo divided; into, two branches, the Foreign Service branch and the Home Service branch. The newarrangement will take effect as from November 23, 1916. This administrative change will assist the Defence authorities to nse the recruits at their disposal to the best advantage. Every ballot is producing a certain number of recruits who are medically unfit for service in the field, but who are capable of •undertaking various military duties in this country. These men are being mto the Home Service section, and it is intended to rfelieve for active service as many as possible of the fit men who have been undertaking necessary work at the militarv camps and, elsewhere Home Service men will be on tho same footing as regards p»y,» discipline as men who are drafted into the Foreign Servico branch. The change is important chiefly on the administrative side, though it offers some possibilities of further development.
