Considerable interest was manifested by the audicnco in tho question of Wellington's i milk supply, and a number of questions were answered by tlie candidates, who claimed that the prcsont situation was tho result of tho council pursuing a polioy of "drift" for years past, and that as the result of tho Railway Department restricting the service the position would become worse unless vigorous action was taken by the council. Sentence of five years' penal servitude was passed at Carmarthenshire Assizes on January 19 on George Bassett, a sailor, for setting fire to a rick of barley, worth £80, at Widivelly, on December 30.
