THE COAL STRIKE
MINISTERS TO (20 TO THE WEST COAST. Cabinet discussed the coal crisis at length, yesterday morning. The decision arrived at was that two Ministers, Sir -James Allen (Acting-Prime Minister) and the Hon. W. D. fc>. MacDonald (Minister of Mines) should' proceed to the West Coast at once, and these two Ministers left on- their mission last night. An invitation has been extended to Ministers to visit the Coast by an: organisation there, but Sir James Allen stated yesterday that he wished it to be clearly understood that the decision of the Government was arrived at quite independently of that invitation. At a meeting of the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to-day, I the engineer reported a serious short-. I ase of coal supplies; and tliat the whole power plant was in danger of being i stopped on account of such, shortage. Fifteen tons' of . coal per week were necessary duririg'winter. The hoard resolved to communicate with the Minister in the matter, and that in the meantime labour be put on to .secure firewood.'
