WOMEN FIENDS IN THE GERMAN RED CROSS
REVOLTING STORY OF 'THEIR BRUTALITIES • London, April 11. ■ y The .'.'Times" Berne correspondent says that revelations of.systematic bru- ... tahty by German lied Cross women ■ towards the British wounded are made of soldiers of all ranks, who •have been released from German prison '.camps. /.During the long journey through Germany it was the common amusement of these women to tempt : the wounued, who were at their last . extremity through hunger and thirst, by holding food and drink before them, then to snatch it away. Many who were begging for' a drink had coffee, water, or soup tendered them, and ' at the last'moment the gentle, nurse, would spit into-it. : "Frequently the wounded had to drink the defiled stuff, while the women laughed. Another common entertainment was to offer a glass of water, and then pomit slowly on the ground. Cases of physical maltreatment' of the wounded by German nurses-were equally common. They not only refused to attend the wants of the men but "regularly insulted and> spat, upon . them. The ' men wounded were even struck, and. they kicked their bandaged limbs in order to'increase their pain. The correspondent adds: "The truth is the German Red Cross ,is merely a branch of militarism. It has prostituted the \sacred sign, shamed its name and forfeited all right to be regarded as an oreanisation , of ' humanity."—-The. "Times." v .
