Marten,.April li. , Whenf our; 6oldiers began to return from tho front and thoy wero settled on the land:some doubt existed! as to whether .these, men would be. able to adapt themselves to thoir new circumstances and mako good settlers. A visit to "Greystoko" Estate, itear Marton/and'to settlement at Makowhai, near Sahdorii- removes all doubt in that Tespeot;" for the eleven mon at Qreystoke and tho fourteen at Makowhai have already made, a splendid commencement. It is intended to go, in for dairying; at hoth settlements, and active preparations are being made to catch the next' dairy season. ■ Cottages, sheds/ and fences'have been erected,'and 'generally: speaking the : men'havo matters well in han<k Some : of the' soldier;.settlers (it Greystoke wore industrious during tho grass-seed-ing season; and the quantity of seed collected ga'vethem good cheques back ■in return.
