, GOVERNMENT SECUIUTIES. The following are the latest quotations for Consols and Colonial GoTerument Securities in comparison with, those ruling last week:—
MONET MABKET. The Bank of England discount rate ttjs on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 41 per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent., and on Jannary/23 3 jer cent. On July JO the rate -was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was raisea to i per cent., and on AuEUSt 1 it Traaiuri'her advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the- rate "was reduced to 6 per. cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to 6 per cent., on July 13, 1916. it was raised to 6 per cent., on January 12, 1917, it was reduced to 5J per cent., and on April 5 it ■was further red-ucedi to 5 per cent. OPEN ILAKKET KATES. The open market discount rate for thr«* •months' bills is 41 per cent., as compared with 4 9-16 per cent, laet week, and 48 »er cent, last year. Short loans are quoted at 4 3-8 per cent., as against A 3-8 per cent, last week and 41 per cent, last year.. ' COLONIAL AND OTHER PKODUCE. Wheat—The market is quiet but prices are unchanged. Hour—Tho market is firm. Australian offers of forward shipments are very much above the English parity of values. . Oats, Peas, end Beans.—All prices aro very firm. No colonial lines are offering. Sugar.—Unchanged; ' Wool—The Bradford" market is niuet, but prices if unaltered are very firm. Butter—The butter market is -weakening, on account of large supplies of Danish going into the northern markets. Danish is quoted at from 218s. to 2225. per cwt.; Australian, choicest, salted, 198s. to 200b. per cwt., and in exceptional instances, 2025. per cwt.; with unsalted lines 2s. lees.
