A RECORD YEAR

POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK DEPOSITS AND WITHDRAWALS The Post Office Savings Bank figures for the year 1916 constitute a new record for New Zealand. The figures show that tho deposits during 1916 were nearly £2,000,000 in excess of what, they wore in tho previous year, .whilst .the'-withdrawals wore over one and a half millions greater last year than in 1915. The amount of business leprcsented in tho mimbor of transactions also constitutes a new record.. To indicate clearly ■ the big jumps that have been made in Savings Bank returns, the figures for three years arc given, viz., 1916, 1915, and 1913 (the last year that was altogether free from the influences of war conditions).
