■ ._— ♦ , ' A meeting of the Wellington Branch . of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held last night, Mr. E. Ballachey presiding. A communication was received from the Wellington Public School Assistant Masters' Association, stating that it had passed the following reolutiin:— ' "That-this association is strongly, of opinion • that-; all teachers on active military.service, should have their pay riiado up to theirlcivilian pay before enlisting," arid that :hy...the- suspension of •..tho-'salary.clauses of the Act with, re- . . gard. \to ivar •appointments, a saving .could : bo', made which Would considerably lessen-the cost .of such a conccs- ■: .sion;"-. It; wasdecided "to forward th« ~■ resolution for-the favourable consideration of the' Executive of. tlio N.Z.E.I. The following resolution regarding i Mr. AV. T. Grundy was submitted by Mr. H. A. Parkinson, and carried:— "That this branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute place on ,Tecord / its keen appreciation of tho notable services of Mr. AV, T. Grundy to education generally and to the institute! •in particular, and extends to him in , his retirement its very hearty good wishes."' : '."" On tho motion of Mr. P. M. Jaok- < 'son, 1 it was resolved:—"That any tbacher unfit fori active service, should • bo re-employed in teaching since: this ■ is tho best home soivico sucTi'a teacher can render." Mention was made of the cases of teachers unfit for active service having been employed as clerks by the Defence Department.
