WAXING HULL OF YACHT
-' — -~—.-» —: —r . HELPS TO WET RACE. An interesting incident'concerning $e waxing of the hull of a racing yaoht' In order to secure less' water resistance is set forth in the following letter by S. C. Johnson and Sons, of Racine, Wisconsin, TJ.S.A.:—"Gentlemen,— Having had. your 'Johnson's prepared wax' brought under my notico by Dr. Downie; of the Mutual Store. Limited, Melbourne, I was induced to try it on the hull of The Rip with a view of getting a perfectly smooth surface offering least resistance to tho sea. Tho underbody of Tho Rip was > first covered with antifouling paint, then two applications of 'Johnson's prepared, wax' were applied, giving a smooth, bright, shining surface, that was very satisfactory to those-in-terested, and a big advantage to a racing yaoht. Tho Rip was launched on the Wednesday prior to tho races for the Northcote Cup, and was successful on bcth days, winning tho Northcote Cup for tho year 1918. I attribute a good deal of tho success to the splondid Burfaoo that was obtained by tho use of tho wax.—Yours, ete. ! (signed), W. S. Dagg."
