A NUMBER OF PETTY CASES
Mr. 3j. R. Reid, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. Isa Leo, against whom there was.a previous conviction, was filled 10s., ill dofault three days' imprisonment, for drunkenness. Two first offenders were convicted and discharged, and another who was found drunk in a theatro was fined'los., the alternative being 48 hours' imprisonment. A conviction was recorded against Harold Francis Hardy,'a young man engaged a,s a steward on a Homo liner, for tho theft of a metal watch, valued at 305.,' the. property of William G. Brown. It was explafaedibyvDoteotiveSergoant Cox.that tho theft took placo on board tho vessel. There was nothing known against the A fine of £5 was' imposed, the alternative being 21 days' imprisonment. John Barrett, an articled seaman, who was charged with deserting from his vessel,' was convicted and sentenced to.threo weeks' imprisonment, and was ordered to be placed on board should the vessel leave- before the expiry of his term of 'imprisonment. • ' ASSAULT ON A LAD. William Millar, for whom Mr. H. F. OlLeary. appeared, was fined-10s. and ordered to pay inedical expenses, 225. 6d., for committing an assault on a boy named Couzeiis. Tho facts as' stated by Mr. O'Leary were that,Couzens, a lad of about 14 ,or 15 years of ago, thrashed Millar's Son, a boy of about nine years of, age. Millar complained to-Mrs. Couzens, but could get no satisfaction. Millar also saw young Couzens, and warned him, but the latter was "cheeky," and said ho would 'thrash young Millar again. This was too much for the father, who'administered a kick on tho posterior of tho offender. Tho constable who was called in when tho assault was committed stated that thorp was a mark .on the boy's neck, and his throat was soi'o. Dr. do Latoiir, who was called in to attend tho boy, had made* a chargo of 225. Gd. ■ .. . . 'OTHER OASES. ■", Harry Davis was fined 10s. and costs for keeping his shop in Cambridge Terrace open for Sunday trading. .Frederick Charles Oudby, for riding a motor-cycle over a lavel _crossing when an engine was: approaching, was fined 10s. and costs.
Jack Hayward, who pleaded guilty to riding a motor-oyclo ab night Tttthout lights, was fined ss. and costs.
John.Sullivan, for., allowing his horse and'vehicle to remain for somo hours in Alpha Street unattended, was fined 10s. and costs. ' .

Clarence Mooro.'.for leaving his express standing in Cuba Street in a dangerous, position, was fined ss. and costs.
John Stewart, for storing hay within.3oft. of a fence, was convicted and discharged. The defendant, a lad of 18, olauned to, bo tho owner of tho hay, which was destroyed by fire. Benjamin Hovildey, James O'Connor, and Frederick Tnoker were charged with removing sand and gravel from Ohiro • Beach between high and : lowwater mark without tho permission- of the Minister of Marine, and -were each fined 20s. and costs.
A fine of 55., with costs, was imposed upon, J. J.'Bayliss for failing to secure tho wheels of his vchible while'- the same was left standing in Molesworth Sbroet. ' ! !-'--'—.••■■-

For failing to register, his dog, Arthur ■William Osborne was fined ss: William H. Liceldon,'a niilk vendor's assistant, for whom Mr. H. F; O'Leary appoared, was charged with'failing to register as required by' the by-laws. Mr. O'Leary explained thatiddfendant orrod in ignorance, and ihacT since' becured his registration; A conviction was, entered, and defendant was ordered to pay costs, 7s. . , ■ Samuel Bray, for failing to, have fly larvae on his premises destroyed, was convicted and ordered to >, pay" costs, 7s. and for permitting manuro to accumulate on his premises he was fined 10s. and costs in default three days' imprisonment. • • EXHIBITING A PHOTOGRAPH. Walter Proudfoot was charged that he did'cause to ho exhibited an indecent document, to -wit, a photograph, "Eccentriques du Moulin -Rouge,'•'. in a shooting gallery in Manners Street: Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared-'for accused. After hearing the evidencs tho Magistrate recorded a conviction, and imposed a fine of £5. PUBLICAN IN, COURT. James Klleary, lioenscc of tho Princess Hotel, was charged with failing to admit, without:-unnecessary delay, a sergeant and constable'of the police* -while in the' execution of \ their duty, on March 11. Tho easo was dismissed. TRAVELLING WITHOUT A TICKET. S. Lestrup, was charged with attempting to travel on tho s.s. Duchess without paying his faro, and with tent to evade, payment. Mr. H. E. Anderson appeared for ,-tho Eastbonrno Borough Council, and Mr. V. B. Willis represented defendant. For tho defence it was oxplained that dofondant had previously paid for a quarterly ticket/; whioh at the date of the offenco had oxpired.' The.defendant had been out of Wollingotn for several days, and had quite overlooked the fact that his tickot had run out. Ho was very much astonished when ho maob the i discovery, which was when tho tickot collector asked him to show his season ! tickot. Ho immediately toot steps to I got another ticket, and informed tho clerk that ho had since tho expiry of the, ticket made two return trips, and for this paid 2s. Tho Magistrate said it was the duty of the defendant to have known that his ticket had expired. A conviotion was entered, and defendant was ordered to pay coste and witnesses' expenses. ALLEGED ASSAULT. Robert' John Riddel), for whom Mr. J. M'Gratli appeared, proceeded against Joseph Shaw, represented by Mr. H. F. O Leary, for an alleged assault, committed on MareS 19, and askea that defendant be bound over to keep tho peace. The trouble arose over some unpleasantness at a union mooting, both parties being morabors of the Plasterors' Union. So\ oial witnesses worn called for both sides, and the case took up nearly the whole of. the afternoon. After hearing tho evidence tho Magistrate convicted dtifiidant and ordored him to find a security, for £25 to keep the peace for six months, and also to pay costs and expenses.
