LIABILITIES OF SOLDIERS
FINANCIAL AID SCHEME
NEW BOARD APPOINTED
ALL MEN MAY APPLY
The new board to deal with applications by reservists about to go on military service for special financial assistance under the recent regulation, which makes it possible for a man to receive in respect of certain of his liabilities allowances up to the amount of £2 per week, was appointed by Cabinet yesterday. The members of the board are: — Mr. T. S. Roualdson, of the Public Trust Office. Mr. Walter E. Bethune, of the firm, of Bethune and Company, of Wellington, and Mr. C. W. Chilman, retired bank officer, lately manager of the Te Aro branoh of the National Bank. This board will deal with the cases of all men who wish to claim special financial assistance. It is understood that it may be necessary to amend the regulations in order to invest them with the powers they are intended to exercise, but the board will hear applications from all men reasonably entitled to make them. They will deal with men who volunteer, men who are balloted, whether they appeal to the Military Service Board or not, and with the cases of balloted men who have appealed to tho Military Service Board and who have had their appeals dismissed before the opportunity was open to them of making application td the Minister of Defence for assistance under this more recent scheme.
