CHARGE OF PERJURY
By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, March 28. The trial of the Native Tutara Kaijuka on a charge of perjury still conj tinues in the Supremo Court, before Mr. Justioe Hoaking. Mr. Mays is appearing for the Crown, and Mr. Lundon for the prisoner. Evidence for the defence is now boing adduced-in the direction of showing that Constable Skinner fired the first shot at Rua's settlement on April 2. 1916. 'A Native witness swore that the police had interviewed liim, and endeavoured to induce him to discard bis lino of evidence relative to Pukcpuke lifting the gun, and seok a fresh line of evidence. . Further questions were being asked, when the Judge ruled them out, as irrelevant to the present case. Mr. Mays said ho did not deny an interview by Senior-Sergeant Cassels, but denied the complexion put upon it by Mr. Lundon. The statemont was absolutely unconnected with tliis or tho other cases, and the interview in tutestion had been held for an entirely different purpose.
