THE MUNICIPAL ROLL
DIMINUTION IN' NUMBER. OF' ELECTORS. ■ A ■ There is a. distinct.falling off _in the number of electors, whose privilege it will bo to exercise votes in connection with the Mayoral, City/Council, Harbour Board, and Hospital and Charitable Aid Board elections on April 25. On the main roll that was' used at the election two years ago 'there were 32,333 names, whereas on this occasion there are 26,996 names only, a, drop of .over 5000 names. Off this latter total perhaps another 100 names may bo lifted, being those who have moved out of the district _ or died, without the authorities SFthe Town Hall "being 'aware of the fact. . Those responsible for'the compilation of the roll do all they can to purge it of names that should not be there,.and even after the main roll is printed that work goes on, so that as clean a roll as possible shall ■be available for use- on election day. Tho big decrease in the number of electors on the present occasion may he attributed, firstly to the large number of electors who have gone to the war, and, secondly, to'tho efforts made to clean-up the roll as far as possible. On the occasion of the last.election there were 1215 names on tho supplementary roll. On this occasion the number on the supplementary roll (now being printed) will bo nearer 2500; making in "all a roll of about 29,500 instead of 33,549, as-in. 1915.
