WHO IS THE CITY ELECTRICAL ENGINEER?
Sir, —For the benefit of ambiguous members of the Oity Counoil and fon the information of the public generally, I would be pleaeed if you would, publish.the following resolution referring to the above, which was passed by the Gity Council on December 4, 1914:— "That Mr. W. H. Morton be appointed manager of the tramways • electric light undertakings." "That Mr. M. Cable be appointed assistant tramways manages, and eleotrical engineer." "That Mr. G. Lauchlan he' appointed assistant lighting manager ~ and electrical engineer." .
In view of the aboye-mentionetD reso-. lution, I will leave it to your readers to decide whether His Worship the! Mayor and members of the council' were correct when they stated that Mr. Morton occupied the position of oifcy: electrical engineer. Owing to the attitude adopted by His Worship the. Mayor in restricting the discussion on the proposed trip of himself and Mr. Morton to Lake Coleridge- and Auckland, I should like to take this opportunity of stating that in my opinionthe city should not be put to the expense of sending either of these two gentlemen on the proposed trip. The City Council is not concerned with the method of generating the electrical current; .the concern of the council and of the citizens generally ib the price which the Government proposed) to charge for the current supplied, and if we want any expert's opinion •upon such a highly technical subject as electricity, my contention is that either one of the above-mentioned experts be asked to report. , ,! Last evening was the first tune tha* I had ever heard that Mr. Morton, our city engineer, was an electrical engineer, and from what I know of the gentleman I feel certain that had he been given an opportunity he would, have been the first to deny the asser-. 10 The remarks of His Worship tha Mayor and Councillor Hntcheson are, to my mind, an unwarranted .sljgnti upon our eleotrical engineers, and both Messrs. Cable and 1 Lauchlan are meiv of repute and held in the highest esteem by the members of their profession throughout the Dominion. _ In conclusion, may I ask His Worship the Mayor one question: If Mr. , Parry invited our representatives lo' visit'Lako Coleridge as stated, did Mr. Parry invite the delegation to visift: Auckland, and, if so, for what?—l am, ° tO,, J. E. FITZGERALD. March 23; _
