The cost of the principal fires in the United Kingdom during tho past year may be estimated on the basis of the published reports at £3,300,400, which compares with losses of £4,205,100 in 1915 and £3,745,100 in 1914. Tho estimate must, however, be qualified by the fact that, owing to war conditions, reports of fires were not published as freely as in previous years, and this may accdint for some of the decrease shown.
