There Is only, a small quantity of whoat offering, although both millers and merchants ,are.-ready to purchase : supplies. Oats.—The market is in a somewhat doubt-ful-position, and the tone is easier. The original cause of firmness was the operation of buyers to cover forward sales, and opinions vary as to whether ■ the market is-going to hold or not. Meanwhile Victorian and Tasmanian oats are being landed at' Auckland at a cost of 3s. Bd. and 3s. s£d. per bushel, and Wellington is being supplied at a, less cost than the oats can be obtained .from the South IBrand. ' Some. samples of Southland -■ oats have been submitted to Christchuroh merchants,' but-they generally show signs of damage by rain. There is not much de-
mond for oatsheaf chaff, and tho quality of that being offered at present is mostly inferior. Prime is worth £3 15s. to £4, and lower quality £3 ss. to £3 10s. at country stations. The potato market is steady, and merchants are finding: somo difficulty in securing sufficient shipping snace for Auckland. The recent demand for onions for shipment to Vancouver has Armed prices to £6 paid to growers. Partridge peas are firmer, and aio quoted at 6s. to 7s. at country stations. Messrs. Levin and Co.. report:—We held a sale yesterday of tallow, hair, goatskins, rejected hides, and such commodities as the Government havo not commandeered. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. London, March 22. The Produce Exchange has decided not to alter the present maximum prices before April 13. Butter.—The market is idle, an 4 merely a hand-to-mouth business is being done. Buyers are holding oft, expecting that prices Trill recede further, as it is estimated that half a million boxes of Australian and two hundred thousand of New Zealand butter axe afloat, and are expected to arrive -within ten weeks. Quotations, largely nominal, are:—Choicest Australian, salted, 200s. to 2045.; iiirealted, 1965. to 2005.; 'Wow Zealand, salted, 210s. to 2125.; unsalted, 2045. to 208s. . ■ Cheese.—Firm. and unchanged.
