THE "VICTORY" WAR LOAN
MR. BONAR LAW INTERVIEWED
THE SPIRIT OF THE NATION
J, New York, March 22. ■The. New York "Sun" publishes an interview, with Mr. Bonar Law. The Chancellor of tho_ Exchequer said: "Eight million British people participated" in the recent loan. Its phenomenal success was 'due to the esprit de corps of the nation, revealing an absolute 'determination to stand shoulder to shoulder against Prussianism; Eminent financiers were sceptical of success at the outset. Some of the, greatest experts told me I was riding for a fall, but they had not reckoned with the influence'of: popular sentiment on the money market. We are a complex race, and it is always most difficult to pro-' phesy what is going to happen in Great Britain. I. gave the country plenty of time. Our public opinion is slow to move, but once moving it will accomplish miracles. The response to the loan shows that the British people can be counted upon in any emergency."— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ,
