o —- i' CAMPAIGN FOR BIG WAR ACREAGE. ; By Telegraph—Press Association. Carterton, March 22. An enthusiastic meeting of farmers was held at Carterton last night to dis- . cuss the question of wheat growing. ; Mr.'J. T. M. Hornsby,-M.P., was in . the chair. Promises were handed m to grow 683 acres of wheat this season. Further meetings are to be' held at Grey town, Featherston, and iMartinborough. , \ It was decided that. it he a recommendation to the Government that during the war tho Territorial camp 3 be abolished. The farms are being worked by the older men and young boys. If the latter are sent to the Territorial camps all work will be dislocated. The Minister of Railways is to bo approached by Mr. Hornsby, asking that railway facilities regarding the supply of ropes and sheets'at the railway station at Carterton, Clareville, and Dalefield be made efficient to the needs of the district. At the present time and in the past difficulty had been experienced in getting truoks, ropes, and sheets. It was also decided to recommend to the Government that ploughmen and men engaged on thrashing mills and all essential farm work be exempted from military service.
