Fitzgerald raised a eephyr at the meeting of the City Council last evening by suggesting that when the Mayor and Tramways Manager visited Lake Coleridge and Auckland in connection with the hydro-elec-tric scheme that they should be accompanied by someono with technical knowledge of electricity, and suggested, that either Mr. Cable or Mr. Lauchlan should accompany the two. The Mayor explained that the trip was to be made on the invitation of Mr. Evan Parry, the \ Government , Eleotrician, who had invited himself and the electrical engineer to pay a visit to Lake Coleridge. He would be able to give, an opinion as a lay man, and the engineer was a man who was; gifted with eleotrioal knowledge. A/Mayor, he could please himself when he went away, as the trip would not be any charge against the city. Counoiflor Fitzgerald moved that either Mr. Cable or Mr.' Lauohlan be asked to accompany the Mayor and City Engineer.' Councillor L. M'Kenzie seconded tlie motion, as he thought they should have a technical man able to give expert opinion. Otherwise' what would be the worth of it. Councillor Hutchison said that tho, invitation was purely a voluntary one from Mr. Pariy to tho Mayor and the Electrical Engineer. Councillor Fitzgerald: "Who is the, eleotrioal engineer?" Councillor. Hutcheson: "Mr, Morton." Councillor Fitzgerald: "Since when?" Councillor Hutcheson: "Since all time." They were not, ho continued, i investigating tho hydro-electric system 1 as against steam-generated electricity, i and were not going to report.
