VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Victoria University College Council was held last nignt. 'There were present: Mossrs. C. Watson (chairman), W. S. La Trobe, C. B. Monson, W. H. Morton, R. A. Wright, A. R. Atkinson, Dr. Prendergast Knight. Professor Rankine Brown, and Professor J. M. E. Garrow. ' ' ;

On the recommendation _of the Professorial Board it was decided that no steps be taken with regard to the suggested introduction of Dutch into the college curriculum.It was decided on the suggestion of the Professorial Board that Mr.' L. J. Pilkinfiton, now in Samoa, be allowed to hold his 1916 Jacob Joseph Scholarship during this year. A proposal of the Professorial Board to allow certain approved students to sit for a special terms examination in March, in the event of their having by bad fortune or illness failed ?n their terms examination at the end of the session was discussed at length. As there was some, doubt as to whether the holding of tliiß extra, examination would be in accord with the regulations of the University of New Zealand, it was deoided to refer the proposal to the Senate.

The resignation of Mr. P. TV. Burbidge, physics lecturer, was received. Mr. Burbidgo lias: enlisted for . service abroad, and lie is to bo given special duties, in which his scientific knowledge will bo utilised.

The present .representatives of the council on the. Tutorial Classes Committee were reappointed—namely, Messrs. Watson, Fleming, Wilson, and Professor Hunter.

A letter was • Teceived from the trustees of the Rhodes Estate, advising that the collego would receive, at once £7500, and would probably receive later £2500 aB its share of the residuary estate. In torms of- the will, this money is to be used for classes, for women.
