DEER-STALKING SEASON
The red deer stalking season for 1917 will open on April 2, and closo on May 31. The licenso fee for the Wairarapa South arid Featherston Reserves is £2, and tho holder is entitled to take four stags and six hinds. Licenses can be obtained at post offices at Wellington, Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Martinborough, and Featherston. For tlio area containing Hutt and Featherston country (Wainui), Horowhenua, and Hutt country (Paraparaumu), Tararua, Forest Reserve, Tailiape, and Shannon, licensos to take two stags only can be obtained on payment of £2 at Post Office at Wellington, Ekotahuna, Palmerston North, Feathers ton. Shannon, Taihape, and others. 1 Regulations as to "tags" must bo strictly adhered to. Each licenseholder must see that he receives a tag i for each head lie is entitled to take, and directly after he has finished stalking ho must return to tho • secretary of tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society all ta"s not required, and a statement of tno number of deer he • has shot. In addition to former areas a new one at Shannon has been opened to stalkers for this season, as it is said tho deer aro working up to the Shannon herd. Prospects for the coming season are considered good, and there is greaJt keenness amongst regular stalkers. _ It is reported that stags are beginning to roar already in parts of the Wairarapa.
