.- : * — . POLICE CASES. Mr. E. G. Reid, S.M., presided over the police side of the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For insobriety. Wm. Wilson, Thomas. Benson; and John Symington were each fined 205:,, and Archibald M'lntyre 10s. Arthur \Trinder, a lad, convicted of absconding from licensed service,, contrary to the Industrial Schools Act/ was' ordered' to he roturned to Weraroa. Alfred Levenson, a. seaman* was convicted of deserting from his vessel,' and was qrdered to' ho detained until lie could he placed, on hoard again. Defondant alleged that the seafaring life was raining his eyes. His Worship 6aid he might ho examined by the gaol surgoon, and later make application for his discharge. A prohibited immigrant, charged with ■unlawfully landing in Now Zealand, was ordered to ho deported. Tho defendant was a Knssian Finn, who had failed to pass tho educational test. CIVIL 'ACTIONS. Mr. W. G. Biddell, S.M., presided over the civil business. Judgment by default of defendants was given for plaintiffs in the following cases:—A. J. Joyce v. David White, .£33 103.. and costs ,£2 lis.;-W. H. Bartlott v. J. Sykes, .£4, and costs 10s.; Henry Bodley and Sons v. James Pratt, £1 125., and costs 75.; Hopo Gibbons, Sons, and J. B. Clarkson, Ltd., v: Robertson and, Co.. JH4 15s. 2d., and costs £1 35.; Albert J. Barton v. W. Thompson, ,£6, and costs .£1 45..6 d.; Preston and Co., lid., v. E. Warring. £\i 17s. 6d., and costs £1 10s. Gd.; Goodwill, Johnson and Co. v. Robertson and' Co., £12 95., and costs £1 10s. Gd. In a judgment summons case, T. Donaldson "was ordered to pay 11. Algar and Co. ,£8 IBs. 6d. by April 3, or sorvo a week's iinprisonmont.. The Inspector of Awards proceeded against Parker and Yates, dairymen, Adelaide Road, for an alleged' broach'of thn Wellington Dairymen's Employees' Award. It appeared that the defendant had oniployed an assistant at n wage of 6s„ instead of ;E1 por week. Judgment was given- for plaintiff for 305., with costs. Tho Inspector of Awards also proceeded against Mrs. Carney, restaurant proprietress, for failing to lcocp a limo and wages hook, and failing to post up in a conspicuous,nlace in her establishment a time sheet showing in tho case of each, worker tho ordinary daily hours for commencing and finishing work. Plaintiff
recovered a penalty of 40s. from the defendant. Judgment in' a cross action concerning a dispute over partnership accounts was delivered toy His Worship. Tho case was that iu which James Charles Slonteith, launch proprietor, claimed from Charles Christie, fisherman, of Island Bay, tho sum of ,£B9 9s. 2d. Defendant counterclaimed .£2O 9s. Sd. After reviewing the evidence, His Worship gave judgment for plaintiff for £1 lGs. 2d., with, costs (.£3 155.). Oh tho counter-claim, judgment was ontered for defendant for £3 9s. Bd'., with tho addition of £i 3s. costs. • At the hearing, Mr.'J.. J. .M'dTath appeared for the plaintiff, and-Mr. A. W. Blair for'the defendant. Herbert Walker claimed from Edward Kearney tlio sum of £21 Its. for damages to a motor-cjelo and sido-car, loss of wages, and general damages, as the result of a ■ collision with defendant's motor-car in Ngahauranga Gorge on January 22. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for tho plaintiff, and Mr. D. M. Findlay for tlie defendant. After hearing evidence, His Worship gave judgment for tho plaintiff for .£25 Ms., with costs ;£5 Gs. -■ .'
