ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY.

ANNUAL HEPORT

The annual report of the Wellington Centre of the .Royal Life-saving Society states that although a,.record of awards was established it is certain that "but for the unfortunate conditions the total •■would have been doubled. The Bleu■leim sub-centre achieved splendid results, gaining eight awards during the year. No fewer tian 47 awards were granted for the Marlborough district. No fewer than 43 classes were formed and instructed during the year, 38 of which were submitted for examination, yielding 231 awards. The ladies hava been encouraged to form classes, and so far 32 awards have resulted. New ladies' classes have been formed. Wβ must not omit to acknowledge the very great asset ■which Wellington now possesses in the Public Tepid Swimming Bath, Tasman Street. Already 22 .persons have trained and qualified for awards, and CI others are in training. For the first time in' the history of swimming in Wellington a class was examined for bronze, medallions and proficiency certificates 'during the winter—a ladies' class. The concession granted the centre two years ago. for the free admissiou to the municipal baths for one year of all 6choql children who gain certificates, still proves a very' material factor in the success of our operations. Tho recent 'concession giving similar privileges to i, those who gain certificates for long distance f swimming will, we are certain, prove ' equally beneficial. Provision has , been made for a : secondary schools perpetual challenge cup, .to bo .known as "The T. G. Macarthy Challenge'. Cuy.". A monster swimming and life-saving carnival will take place on Aiigust Ifi next, at, the Public Tepid Swimming Bath. The trustees of the T. G. Macarthy Estate liavo very generously donated .£SO to the funds. '■'•.■ '..' i '■'".■■
