BRITISH PURSUIT ON THE TIGRIS ENEMY DRIVEN FROM STRONG POSITION STRAGGLING RETREAT NOW IN PROGRESS The High Commissioner reports:— London, March 18, 6.40 p.m. In the fighting on Wednesday on the right bank of the Tigris, the Turkish rearguard was driven back to a strong position covering the railway station at Mushaides. We continued the attack during the night. The irosition was finally captured on Thursday, the enemy retiring hastily. The retreat continued on the afternoon of Friday of the remnants of three Turkish columns in the direction of Samarra. On Friday morning the enemy was (straggling over a distance of 20 miles, with lis rearguard 25 miles north of the scene of Wednesday's -figMing. THE NEW ORDER IN BAGDAD BRITISH -PROCLAMATION OF LIBERTY. (Rco. March 19, 6 p.m.) London, March IS. The Press Bureau states: ''General Maude (British Commander in Mesopotamia) has issued the following Proclamation in Bagdad: 'The British come not as conquerors hut as liberators, to relieve you of the tyranny and bondage of the Turco-Germans, who have despoiled you and made Bagdad for twenty years the centre of assailing British power in Persia and Arabia. The Entente Powers hope that the Arab rp.ee will again rise to gTfiatnesa. The Crown invites your representatives to participate in the'civil management in collaboration with the British political representatives who are accompanying the Army.' Wireless, per Admiralty Press.—A' Russian official message states: "In the region of Ognot we occupied Warab, ai village in the direction of Sakkv*!. We occupied Saranabara, through enorr higher than a man on horseback. The troops are sheltering in snow caverns.
