NOTES AND COMMENTS

IBi Glencoe.l Entries for the Waipukurau meeting close to-night.

.Mystification, sire of Indigo, Teka, Mysteriarch, and others died recently at Mr. G. Hunter's station at Porangahau. Mystification was a good performer, and when trained by E. Goosoman won many big handicaps throughout the North Island.

Form Up has started in ten races this season, hie record being five wins, three seconds and two thirds. Ho is now up with the good ones in important handicaps, but is far from being out of his place.

The three-year-olds, Kilboy, Sasanof, and Egypt, are on the 6ame mark in the Great Eastor Handicap, but in tho Great Autumn Egypt ha 6 an allowanco of 31b. from the Biccarton trained pair.

As a result of Ms form at TrcnthaXi and Wanganui during the last few weeks, Bunting has made great advancement in the opinions of tho handieappars. In the Wellington Cup he had a concession of 171b.- from Bee, who did not start, while Bunting won, Bee capturing tho Dunedin Cup a few weeks later. Now they figure on the snme mark in the Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps. Jockeys L. H. Hewitt and L. Hegarty passed through here yesterday on their way to Auckland, where both have riding engagements at tho Easter meeting. Thero wore many sore horses after the Opaki raoeting, and unless tho drought breaks up soon the fields at the Easter meetings will bo smaller than usual. The appeal of Hector Gray against the decision of the Auckland District Committee, in refusing him a license was heard, at Wellington on Saturday afternoon, but no decision was given out. The defection of Crnosus from the Easter Handicap at Ellerelie may mean that fbe half-brother to'Beeert Gold is to be sent south, but probably it will bo found that he is at Dome of the smaller meetings at that time. . It would appear that .T. W. Lowe contemplates dividing tho Messrs. Riddiford'a team during Easter, as Chakwana has been allowed to drop out of the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie, while Menelaus stands hie ground. s Taupiri Maid, by Elysian—Gmdwife, bred by Mr. W. J. Ralph, and now racing in Australia, won the Third Division Handicap at the recent Ascot meeting. Varnish, who scored in tho Waimato Cup on Thursday last, has now won five races on end. Tho Varco gelding came into prominence in August by wimrfng a double at tho Biccarton National meeting, and wa6 later successful in the Amberlcy Cup. Since then ho has been in retirement, but apparently his owner has kept him busy, and he is as well as ever. • Jockey'F. Flynn, who was taken seriously ill after the last Wanganui meeting, and had to undergo an operation, is still confined to his bed, and it will be somo time before he is able to ride again. Tribulation, who was the only son of Stepfeldt that did not. turn out firetcla«s as a racer, promises to do bettor a a sire. In Trials and Brown Study he has two useful horses to represent him.

The weil-known Riccarton boitserMU in I. H. Hegarty has decided on a change of headquarters. As the result of several offers from Auckland owners. Hegarty will in future be located at Ellerslie. Nyetad has the distinction of being the first of the Great Easter Handicap candidates to get on the winning list after the declaration of weights for the C.J.C. race. His victory in the Final Welter at Masterton did not entail a penalty for his Riccarton engagement. El Gallo has been withdrawn from both tbe jumping events at the Auckland ■Racing Club's autumn meeting, leaving Waimai in the post of honour. The Spalpeen gelding is probably being held in reserve for more important events in tbe winter.
