•Sir William Michael Curtis, fourth baronet, of Caynham, Ludlow, has died at Shrewsbury, aged 57. ITo was twice married, but leaves no male issue, and Hip heir-presumptive is his cousin, Mr. Edgar Francis Egcrton Curtis, who is 41 years of age.
Quinine is the greatest fever-fighter known to modern science. It is believed to have been discovered by a Jesuit about 1535. Its earliest public use was when the wife of the Viceroy of Peru, the Countess of Chincon, was cured of an attack of fever by the drug.
