GERMAN SCHOOLBOYS AS PORTERS
"FLYING PATROLS" TO UNLOAD RAILWAY TRUCKS. According to tho "Schleswigsche Nachrichton," a proclamation has been issued from tho General Headquarters of the 9th Army Corps District (Sch-leswig-Holstoin, the two Mcpklenburgs, and the Hanseatic towns) ordering the organisation of sfchoolboys for civil conscription service on the railways. Tho proclamation says: "As rolling stock is badly needed, and there is_ a great shortage of coal, every recipient of railway trucks must arrange? to unload' them immediately. Should a truck bo left unloaded beyond a fixed time it will bo unloaded by tho authorities at the consignees' expense. In order to cope with this task, 'unloading patrols' will bo organised in all garrisons. These, however, must bo relioved at tho earliest possiblo moment by organisations of schoolboys everywhere.
"In towns where there is no garrison the police must organise tho boys. Remote railway stations where there are neither military nor police must telegraph to the nearest town for special 'flying patrols' of schoolboys which are to be kept always ready., In towns possessing tramlines arrangements must be made with tho directors for a certain number of tramcars to be used for transport from tho railway. Tho schoolboys'. services will bo paid for by the railway authorities and the garrison commanders jointly."
