A RECORD IN HUT ERECTION
On the day before Christmas Eve tfuifco a gtorm swept over tho northwest _of Franco, wrecking inarqueosj and in soino cases wrenching off portions of N tho roofs of Y.M.C.A. huts. At olio particularly desolato spot, where tnero was a largo camp, tho wrecking of tho marquee, on tho ovo of Christmas was <1/ catastropko. Tho commanding othcor approached tho Y.M.C.A. seorei Adam Scott, and said that l Christmas Day without a Y.M.C.A. I hub iu tho camp would bo ft very sad business, and urged him to do oil ho could to supply this great need. Considering that it generally takes at least three weoks to erect a hut, it looked very unlikely that wo should bo ablo to meet this emergency. However, tho promise was made to do all that was possiblo, and it was moro than fulfilled. Five or six milos away "wo had just taken down one of our sectional huts to replace it by a larger oue. Transport was organised, and all d-uiirag tho mom of Christmas Eve tho material for the lint was rapidly transported to tho camp. In tho aftonioon the skeleton of a hut began to taka shape; tho French workmen, encouraged by promises of generous Christmas boxes, worked like Trojans well into the night, and actually turned' up at early hours on Christmas morning, an un-heard-of thing for French workmon— and aft/or a few more hours of strenuous work, handed over tho Imt complete at 10 a.m. on Chistinas Day. By the afternoon of tho samo day the hut was fully equipped and lit, and was thronged at night with a happy Christmas party that would have done your heart good to seo. Mr. Scott's feat is the talk of tho camp, and, I think you will agree, establishes a record.—Extract from "The Red Triangle."
