WELLINGTON GIRLS' COLLEGE.

The swimming sports of tho Wellington Girls' Col Logo were held yesterday morning in tho Thorndon Swimming Baths. 'Ilie conditions ivero by no means favourable. 'Notwithstanding, howover, some good performances were put up by some of the girls. The starters wero Miss Mackenzie, Miss M'Diarmid, and Miss llobertson, and tho judges Mrs. LitchfieLdi, Miss Ward 1 and Miss Heath. Tho College Games Club was responsible for the arrangement of tho different events, Tho prize list is as follows:— Senior 50yds. Championship: 13. Donnelly, 1; J. Marchbanks, 2; E. Adams; 3. One of tho finals has yet to be competed for, and weather permitting the event will take place to-day.

Speaking of tho spaco which was taken up on board incoming vossols by imports of whisky, Mrs. Lee Oowie, in the course o£ her address in Trinity Methodist Church, on Wednesday, saidthat 5000 cubic feet (not 60,000, as quoted) wevo takon up by cases of whisky on a vessel that arrived in Dunedin lately, and that spaco might have been occupied by goods that the country had need of.

Mrs. Elizabeth Kitchener, aunt of tho lato Lord Kitchener, died at Newmarket, at the ago of eighty-nine. Lord Kitchencr often visitod his uncle, who was a solicitor, at Newmarkot, in his younger days, and his aunt had a fund of anecdotes about him. Tho old lady was comparatively halo and hearty, and was daily out walking unaided until about a 'fortnight boforo her death, when she had a paralytic seizure from which she never recovered.

Tho Mayoress of Auckland, Mrs. J. H. Gunson, has forwarded tho following paragraph from au. English paper, which may hold considerable interest for some New Zealand mother, states an exchange:—'"For over a year now there lias been in possession 9? the staff of tho Now Zealand Division a ring for which no owner can be found. It was picked up at tho entrance to Reserve Gully, hoar tho beach at Anzac, 011 May 20, 1915. It is a gold seal, ring, with two monograms, M.S.,' and 'Ij,JV.,' on tho faco. Inside the ring is this inscription: 'From mother, September 7, 1913.' "

To-day tho produce salo in aid of tho Kindergarten Building Fund is being held in tho Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall, boginning at 2.30 p.m. Great preparations havo been .mado, and it is ..expected that there will ,bo a great variety of fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers, meat, fish, jams, pickles, cakes, sweets, etc. Competitions have also been arranged for. Scones and apple pies and various guessing competitions will he held. Mrs. A. 'Adams Langloy Dale (Marlborough) is tho guest of Mrs. H. A. Cornford, Hawke's Bay. The winner of tho point lace collar and cookery book raffle, which was held some time ago in connection with the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas (in the Star boating shed) lias not yet put in a claim for the collar. The winning ticket is 908, and by presenting the ticket to any of tho ladies at work in tho Star boating shed tho owner will receive tho' collar.

Bornatt, playing cards; Mrs. W. Bidvvill, Featherston, home-made jam and fruit: Mrs. Quinton Donald, Featherston, plums; Mrs. A. C. Tucker, 65 Nairn Street, Wellington, face cloths; Mrs. Cotterill, oranges; Miss Maunsell, Mastertoiu fruit; Mrs. Huntev, Southbridge, linen.
