HONEY CROP PROSPECTS

Tho Director of the Horticulture Division of tho Department of Agriculture has received from the apiary instructors tho following reports conccrniuf* the honey crop prospccts:— Wellington.— As anticipated, the crop generally throughout tho district has been an average one. In some cases, however, exceptional yields have been secured, as instanced by forty-eight yielding three and a half tons. Prices arc considerably ahead of last year, and notwithstanding the. shortago of boats for tho export trade, they are likely to bo maintained. Tinware is such a high prico that raising the price of honey is necessary to cover the extra cost. The demand .is very keen.

Ciiristchurch.—The season ,is finishing up rather bettor than was anticipated, a little, jicctar has been gathered during tho last fortnight. Many beekeepers aro now in hand with the final extracting, but the crop generally will only he a little better than last year. The bulk of the crop has been secured by the larger beekeepers, who purpose exporting. Sections are scare, none, offering. Extracted honoy, sd. to 5Jd. in hulk. Beeswax, from Is. to Is. 4d., according to quality. Dunedin.—Extracting has finished, and beekeepers aro busy putting bees into winter (juartcrs.-. Very littln honey forward. Prices aro firm, and there is every indication that market rates will steadily rise. Bulk honey, 4Jtl. to od.; ten pound tins, 4s. 6d. to 65.; pat' honey, i)ono forward ; sections aro scarce, and command ready salo at 7s. to Bs. por, dozen.
