THE BRIBERY CHARGES MOTION FOR A ROYAL COMMISSION Melbourne, March U. In the Federal Senate, Senator Gardiner moved the appointment- of a Royal Commission to inquire into Senator Watson's charges against Mr. Hughes. Senator Iferrieks: ''Everybody knows Senator Ready was bought. The only question is what price was paid." The motion was ruled out of order. Senator Gardiner then moved to dissent from tho President's ruling. This was carried by 16 votes to 15. Senator Poaree moved the appointment of a Commission provided a member would accent the responsibility of making a definite charge. This was defeated by 16 votes to 15, anil Senator Gardiner's motion was carried bv 18 votes to 13, Senator Keating .and Bakhap voting against tho Government. Senator Watson has announced that he lias accepted the service of the writ issued by, Mr. Hughes.—Press Association.
