SHORTAGE OF MEDICAL MEN
FOR SERVICE IN NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Marcli 14. Respecting the shortage of medical men for service within th'o Dominion, the Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Public Health, proposes to call a conference of representatives of the Department and the British Medical Association to meet in Wellington shortly to discuss what steps should be taken to organise the profession for the purpose of adequately supplying military and civilian needs. A Departmental report on the subject snows that there are 546 doctors in the Dominion in private and institutional practice, and 237 engaged in military work, including 190 at the front. Altogether, it is reported that there are only 26 doctors m excess of the minimum number considered to be the limit of safety.
