In the West, tho British havA slightly improved their position at Bounhavcsnos, and carried out successful trench raids. Tho French have launched and successfully brought off a. brilliant attack ;ib Maison-de-Chanipague, advancing on a front of something nnder a inile, taking prisoners and achieving their objective. There are no new developments on the other main fronts. The German- American situation remains the same. The Government has defined tho status of the armed Araeri- : can liners, which will carry an armed guard, and naval gunners for protection when traversing the submarine zone.
