The following arc the particulars of the Priostma.n grab dr«dge which has been ! purchased by tlio Patea Horbour Board I from tho River ton Harbour Hoard for the sum of £3500;— Length, !2ft.; breadth. 22ft..; draught, when loaded, sft.; capacity "T hopper, 80 tons. The dredge, which is built of steel, is capable of loading and dscharging 240 tons of spoil per day, and was built in 1913-14 in accordance with specifications supplied by Messrs. Priestman Bros.. London. She is fitted with a Prieetman grab dredging crane of the latest pattern, with steam winches for crane and hopper door. Its cost wo.s originally £5760, but it is stated that were the material procurable it could not now he built under between £8000 and £9060. It is practically a new boat, having done barely twehe months' work. The reason for its disposal is that the work for

which it was obtained has been completed, aud the Uivertoii Board have therefore no further uso for it. Its purckase at £3500 by the Patea Haxbour -Board is looked upon by those in a posiH of !i V? J u dgo ■something' in the nature <u gait-edged" investment for the Patea Harbour ratepayers. It is expected that it will arrive in Patea in about a fortnights time, -when it will immediately commence tlio work of clearing the fairway.

EIVEIUXA. FKOi£ SYDNEY. Itougli weather was the cause of the Itiveriua's late arrival in port yesterday from Sydney direct. Head winds and heavy seas made things unpleasant, but the weather cleared on Sunday, and. the vessel arrived in .port shortly after noon, and berthed at No. 6, Queen's Whajf. She leaves here this evening for Lyttclton, returning on Thursday morning, and leaving at 5 p.m. on Thursday for Sydney direct. The vessel brought transhipments ei sixteen overseas vessels, amounting in all to 12-37 tons.

WIIOIEKA AND WESTHALIA, The YTimmera, which, left hero last night, is timed to leave Auckland for Sydney direct on Friday , next, and should get to Sydney on March 20. According to present arrangements she will turn round a,t Sydney, leaving there on llaxch 21 in order to catch up to her time-table, but whether Bhe "svill bo able to trork Sydney in one day is Questionable. The Westralia is timed to leaTc Melbourne on the last day of this month, and is due at Wellington on April 5, and leaves again on April 7 for Melbourne, via southern ports. ROUGH WEATHER AT NAPIER. Tho "Union Company adviso that, owing to heavy weather at Napier yesterday the Tarawera had to leave port at about '3 p.m., and was unable to finish working cargo. She should pet here about 9 a/m. to-day. Afyer landing: some hundreds of turns of general cargo hero tho vessel leaves for Lyttclton and Dune din to* night. MAKAROA INQUIRY. , Mr. G. Allport, Secretary for Marino, adTised yesterday that the Magisterial inquiry into the rceent stranding of the Mararoa near PaJliscr Bay has been fixed for 10.50 a.m. to-morrow at thd Magistrate's Court; also that tho nautical I assessors appointed are Captain H. John-" 1 fitou, formerly harbourmaster at WellingI ton, and Captain- Felix: Black, a wellknown master both on tho coast and in tho harbour. FIRE AT HEIitSNSVILLE. Mr. G. Allport, Secretary for Marine, ' advised a Dominion reporter yesterday ; that ho had received telegraphic advice j from tho harbourmaster at Kaipara stat- ; ing that on Sunday the etcamcr Bellbird, i while lying at the Jlolensvallo Tvharf, ! caught lire, and was considerably, dam- j aged amidships. No further particulars* as to tho origin of the tire or oxtent of damage were obtainable. The Bellbird is a vessel of Gome 200 tons, and trades between Hclensville and Dargaville. She is a, f&vrly old but good sea.boat, and is used principally for cargo carrying, although ehe also does her share in carry- j ing passengers between the ports. * MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. J. D. Hamilton, assistant purser of tho Corinna, ha© come ashore. Mr. J. A. Jobb. who came as master of the hulk Hannah Nicholson, has come ashore. Mr. J. S. Captain Smith, late of the Warrimooi was a passenger from Sydney by tho Riverina yesterday. The Kurow left Newcastle at noon on j Thursday with coal for Wellington, and should get here tomorrow. Messrs. Emirali and Ford report having sold the Auckland, cutter Janet, of 22 tons register, says the Auckland "Herald." She •was built in Auckland in 1875. and has been trading out of Auckland ever since. Her owner. Mr. E. Parris, of Auckland, ha.s sold the vessel to Captain Ross, of AtTcklantf. It is undorstoo<V»hat the vessel has been bought, for the South Soa>v Islands, and is to leavo for there in about three weeks' time. After a smaxt passage of forty-two hours from Gisborno the Huia arrived at Auckland on Saturday afternoon. According to the Auckland "Herald" the vessel is, as usual, to load explosives ex an overseas steamer, due in Auckland shortly, but prior to this she will probably make another trip down the coast with general cargo. Cathie, Dempster and Co. advise that tho Wootton should get here on Friday from Lyttelton, and will Bail tho Fame evening for Picton. After that her movements are indefinite. The John should got' here on Frida-y from southern ports, and will sail the same day for Wanganui. The hulk Jubilee, in tow of tho Canopitß. will leave here to-day for Auckland. She "will probablv leave here on Saturday for Nelsr*' and t.V West Coast, but this is not yet <!<y finite. It is hoped to tret the Blenheim away to-morrow for Havelock and Pelorus Sound. It is probable that the Defender will (get-back from the south about Saturday or Sunday next.

Owing: to Hhe Koutunui haviup .been chartered by the Government for lightering oneraiione in Tokomaru Bay, she is not. expected in Wellington for some time. The Kaitaugata is bound from Newcflctle +o Lytt/lton with a car«;o of coal. The Te Anau arrived at Timaru yes-* terday from the Chatham Islands, and left again yesterday on her return trip. Her next call after visiting the Chathams this trip will probably be Lyttelton, after which she resumes running in the coastal trade.

It is interesting to observe that the steelscrew steamer Putiki. now engaged in the Wellington-Wangamii service, and the iron-screw steamer Huin-. are in the market, and are to be sold by public auction by Messrs. Levin and Co. Ltd.. at Wellington, on Thursday. March 29. 'Those concerned will find further particulars in an advertisement in this issue.
