At Lord Devoiiport's instance tho Produce Exchange convened a meeting of the principal provision iiruis throughout tho country which decided to fix maximum pricos for butter, cheese, bacon, and lard, and prohibit intertrading. Importers must only soil to wholesalers and retailers, i.nd not to importers except without profit and commission. Similarly wholesalers must only sell to retailers, who must only soil to consumers.—Aua.-N.Z. Oabk issn.
