[Count Zeppelin was' the constructor of huge dirigibld .balloons which accomplished remarkable, flights. He was for many years an officer in the army, and saw active service in the Franco-German War. All his life ho had baeu an enthusiastic aerial.experimenter, and sacrificed his private fortune to his efforts. His first long flight was' in 1900. The Zeppelins were proved to be successful navigators as air-ships, but thqy havo been'a failuro as agents of military,' offence.
