MAKARA COUNTY

COUNCIL MEETING. The Makara County Council hold its monthly meeting yesterday. There were present: Messrs. J. H. Haggerty (chairman), H. J. Monaghan, A.- J. Taylor, L. B. Mextctj, S. Bryant, and Gco. Monk. The action of the chairman in approving of the alteration in tho dimensions of the culvert at tho head of Ngahauranga Gorge Road was approved. The foromau reported that he had gone over the route of tho proposed cablo between Titahi Bay and Wellington with tho Telegraph Engineer, aud had' made tho necessary arrangements for laying it. Culverts at East Porirua, Takapu, and Titahi Bay had been complete, since tho last meeting, and the willows at tho mouth of tho Porirua River had been removed. The tunnels on the Ngahauranga Gorge Road require tho attention of some workmen. Tho necessary repairs were ordered to Iμ. carried out, and the report was adopted. Further proceedings are to be instituted against a ratepayer who is considerably ia arrears.

The report of tiio Jiackcnzio County Council in con-section with the Custom's tax on motor tires was approved aud supported. The council decided to purchase a building for tho purposo of etoriug their plant. Tho overdraft was reported to stiind at £VSS Gs. Gd. Mr. E. Willocks was appointed roudman on tho Tawa Flat length.
