DAY'S BAY
THE WATER AND DRAINAGE. The Finance and Property Commit-, tee reported to tho City Council last .evening that they had been waited ujwn by a deputation representing the Hutt County Council and tho Day's Bay ratepayers and residents, who urged that action be taken in the matter of providing drainage and water facilities■to tho Day's Bay district. The deputation' also asked for information regarding tho limits of the proposed l special rating area and the exclusion of tho whole or part of the City Corporation's freehold jn tho Bay. Tho committee informed the deputation that the council decided on November 29 last to promote legislation to give effect to tho City Engineer's scheme, and to provide the machinery for tho collection of the special rates, etc., hut on account of the pressure of the work recently, the City Solicitor had been -unable to submit the draft Bill to tho council. The'deputation were also' informed that immediately the/draft was received! a copy of same would be forwarded to the Hutt County Council and the Day's Bay ratepayers. In -the meantime, without legislative authority, no portion of-tho work could bo undertaken. The questions raised by the deputation ao to the limits of the rating area, etc., wouldl he considered by the _ committee and their recommendations will he submitted to tho council at an early d'ate. _ The Mayor remarked that the coun-1 oil should do all it could to have water and drainage provided for Day's Bay— this in the interests not only of the residents, but also of the city people who so often visited Day's Bay.
